Osprey Defense Installation Tips and Tricks
Depending on your specific AR15/M16/M4 rifle configuration, there are some major differences between tolerances and setup of the host rifle at the rifle factory. This translates into tiny but time-saving tips and tricks which we have found very helpful in making the OPS-416 the fastest install of any gas-piston conversion on the market. This will be an ever-growing list as we have new tricks available to you.
- First and foremost, if you want the easiest possible install, get the right punch ! Our system can be installed easily with short 5/64″ punch. Most people already have this if they ever purchased a punch set as it is pretty darned common. You need to drive out the cross-pin in the front gas block/sight tower and LONG PUNCHES ARE NOT THAT STRONG!
- If the Op-rod won’t slip into the upper with the flat side down, try depressing the delta ring while installing the op-rod.
- Check the alignment of the groove pin hole with the punch you used to remove the roll pin. Drive the groove pin in with 1 (one) hard hit. (don’t tap it)
- If the spring clip won’t go under the op-rod on a larger barrel, you can install it from the top AS LONG AS YOU HAVE CLEARANCE and it does not interfere with the hand guard.
- If you have a gun made during the assault weapons ban with a sear block in the lower receiver you will need to purchase the C model kit with a semi auto bolt carrier. C designates California compliant and is semi-auto only.
- We have found that using a cleaning rod to set the bushing in the front of the upper receiver will help you seat it correctly and easily.
